about

John Dee was one of the most brilliant minds of the Elizabethan age.
Born in London in 1527, he exhibited an extraordinary appetite for knowledge
as a child and, by his early 20’s, was already conversant in Astrology, Astronomy, Mathematics,
Medicine, and Navigation.
However, it is the next stage in Dee’s journey that concerns us here.

Having mastered Greek, Latin, and Hebrew, he now wanted to parle with, if not God himself
then His intercessors, the Angels.
As Alan Moore puts it, “This guy was prepared to storm Heaven”.
To facilitate this, Dee would stare intently into a 2000-year-old obsidian mirror, its deep and mysterious obliqueness focusing the gaze in preparation for the heavenly messengers.’
Arrival.

Dee’s mirror now resides at the British Museum, and it was here in Bloomsbury that I was invited to visit.

The resulting recordings are now finally available.
